This Site Supervisor will report to the Senior Project Manager Green Recovery EPN and will work within UKPN Services based in our Bury St Edmunds office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £61,723 plus car and a bonus of 3%.

Job Purpose:

You will provide onsite supervision and management of complex CDM sites from the initial design/set-up phase to final commissioning. This will involve the daily management of sites with specialist contractors and UKPN Services direct staff, encompassing a range of activities from surveying, civil construction, cable laying, and associated electrical works.

You will supervise the daily management of CDM sites to achieve a high level of safety compliance, quality, cost, and time targets set by a Project Manager. You will require coordination and organisation of all site operations to ensure that projects are delivered with full consideration to safety, third parties/customers, following UK Power Networks Services policies, procedures and standards. You will report to a nominated Project Manager.

In addition to the above tasks the role will require the monitoring of the associated project documentation to ensure the site stays compliant, working with the Project Manager and providing necessary site progress reports to ensure the project schedule is accurate and works are on target.

It will also include an element of cost management to ensure unnecessary costs are not being incurred and any efficiency opportunities are realised.

Principal Accountabilities:

Help deliver projects to time, cost, quality whilst maintaining the highest levels of safety, environmental, and customer management through engagement with all partners and the use of Early Warning notices to document scope change and subsequent cost variations.
Undertake the role of a site supervisor to support the Project Manager ensuring the Construction Phase Plan is prepared and maintained.
Ensure the cooperation and communication between contractors is maintained and coordination of their activities is following the P6 Programme and that all operatives engaged on the project are aware of all safety and environmental requirements and this is documented at the outset with inductions and maintained through RAMS and POWRA.
Ensure construction assurance is to the required standards through audits on quality of work, technical competencies, adherence to specifications, compliance with testing and commissioning procedures, and safety and environmental procedures.
Ensure that the required project data is completed promptly and submitted for processing.
Coordinate the construction activities on site ensuring that all activities have an appropriate method statement and risk assessment in place.
Maintain a Quality Plan detailing the roles and responsibilities, the relevant standards, policies and procedures, the important milestones and project sign-off points.
Support the Project Manager to ensure the project plan (Primavera P6) is up to date to show progress on all project activities and the impact of any changes to the plan. Together with the project plan develop a resource plan to ensure the provision of direct and contract resources, materials and services to ensure that project programmes are maintained.
Ensure that all work is carried out to provide very high levels of Customer Service.

Main Duties:

Support the Project Manager to ensure UKPNS are compliant with its role of Principal Contractor as defined in the CDM Regulations.
When undertaking engineering activities ensure the compliance with all health and safety procedures such as Putting People to Work and Distribution Safety Rules.
Promote a positive safety culture to ensure all operatives feel comfortable to raise and share safety concerns reinforcing the UKPN message that 'Safety is our Number One Priority'.
Undertake site inductions and checks on individuals/organisations competencies and authorisations for the work they are undertaking.
Ensure all activities are co-ordinated and have an appropriate risk assessment and method statement in place.
Manage the construction site ensuring the site is organised with welfare facilities, security, and storage areas. The construction area is clearly defined and kept in a safe manner.
Co-ordinate daily construction and maintenance activities with Client/ Contractor's ensuring programmes are met.
Obtain quotations from suppliers and raise Purchase Order request with Business Support team.
Change Management - ensure early warning notices and change requests are brought to the attention of the Project Manager / Commercial Manager & Partners.
Provide technical support and act as appoint of reference for the Construction team.
Identify potential project risks/opportunities (raise awareness within team/company).
Seek continuous improvement and opportunities to save costs and reduce the project timescale.
A flexible approach to working hours to ensure that appropriate site supervision is always provided.
Represent UKPNS at meetings with clients and contractors.

Qualifications:

A sound background in Primary and Grid Substation construction and cable systems experience working in a project delivery environment is beneficial.
You will have relevant experience in civil or electrical construction site supervision.
You will have an ONC or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering
A detailed knowledge of the safety & environmental regulations relating to construction work in the industry. A safety qualification such as CITB SMSTS is required as will experience working with the CDM regulations and ISO9001 quality processes.
A qualification in Project Management (Association for Project Management - APM or Prince 2 for example) is desirable.
Knowledge of Primavera P6, and the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Outlook, Excel, Word and Project) are necessary.
Authorised to accept Limitation of Access for Civil and Building works, and issue task instructions in an electrical environment.
Switching authorisation would be an advantage, but not necessary as training will be provided.

You will also be able to demonstrate a high level of organisational skills.
You may work outside normal working hours.
