Salary: £26,427–£26,847 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am–3:30pm
Contract: Permanent

We are recruiting a Site Officer for a welcoming and supportive school in Thetford.

This is a varied, hands-on position for someone who enjoys practical work and takes pride in creating a safe, secure and well-maintained environment. You will report to the Operations Officer and look after the school’s day-to-day maintenance, security and general site requirements.

You do not need to be a qualified tradesperson. However, you should be practical, comfortable using tools and able to complete basic repairs confidently.

What you’ll be doing

* Completing general maintenance and minor repairs around the school

* Carrying out basic plumbing and other practical tasks

* Identifying faults and reporting work that requires a specialist contractor

* Conducting routine health and safety checks

* Maintaining accurate maintenance, inspection and compliance records

* Supporting the security of the premises, including key-holder responsibilities

* Monitoring alarms, access points and other security systems

* Helping to maintain the school grounds and outdoor areas

* Moving furniture, receiving deliveries and providing general porterage

* Working with contractors and other service providers

* Using email and digital systems to record completed work

* Responding appropriately to hazards, faults and emergencies

What we’re looking for

Previous experience in a maintenance, facilities, caretaking or similar practical role would be ideal, although formal trade qualifications are not required.

More importantly, you should be:

* Practical and confident using tools

* Capable of completing basic repairs and maintenance

* Proactive and able to spot what needs doing

* Health and safety conscious

* Organised and able to manage changing priorities

* Friendly, welcoming and comfortable around staff, children and visitors

* Keen to help and willing to get involved

* Able to work independently and as part of a supportive team

* Comfortable using basic email and digital systems

* Committed to safeguarding and maintaining a safe school environment

Why consider this role?

You’ll be joining a supportive school that takes real pride in the environment it creates for its children. The Monday-to-Friday hours provide a consistent working pattern, and your work will play an important part in keeping the school safe, welcoming and running properly.

Important information

Annual leave must be taken outside term time, during the school holiday periods.

The successful applicant will be required to complete the relevant DBS and safeguarding checks
