The Opportunity

We are working with a well-established main contractor that is looking to appoint an experienced Freelance Site Manager to join the team on the construction of a new-build supermarket in East London.

The project consists of the delivery of a large steel frame retail unit, associated external works and infrastructure. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, you will take responsibility for managing day-to-day site operations, ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme and to the highest quality standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Site Manager with a proven track record delivering new-build commercial or retail developments, particularly projects involving structural steel frames.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the day-to-day delivery of the new-build supermarket project.
Oversee the erection of the structural steel frame and subsequent construction packages.
Coordinate subcontractors across groundworks, steel frame, cladding, roofing, internal fit-out and external works.
Ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with the construction programme.
Monitor progress, identify programme risks and implement solutions to maintain key milestones.
Carry out quality inspections and ensure all works meet client specifications.
Enforce health, safety and environmental standards across the site.
Coordinate plant, materials and site logistics.
Work closely with the Project Manager, Engineers and commercial team to ensure successful project delivery.
Maintain accurate site records, RAMS, permits and daily reports.

About You

The successful candidate will have previous experience delivering new-build commercial or retail projects from the ground up, with strong knowledge of structural steel frame construction.

You will have:

Previous experience as a Site Manager working for a main contractor.
Experience managing steel frame construction projects.
Strong understanding of build sequencing, temporary works and subcontractor management.
Experience coordinating multiple trades and maintaining programme.
Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
A proactive approach with a strong focus on health & safety and quality.
