Description:
Site Manager
Bridgend
Permanent salary + company van
I’m currently recruiting for an experienced Site Manager to take day-to-day responsibility for the delivery of civils construction works across our sites. Reporting to the Contracts Manager, you will plan, organise, monitor and control site activity to ensure the works are delivered safely, on programme, to specification and within budget.
This is a hands-on management role. You will lead site teams and subcontractors, hold the site's health and safety responsibilities, and act as the principal point of contact for the client, designers and the wider supply chain. The successful candidate will hold a current SMSTS certificate as a minimum — this is a non-negotiable requirement of the role.
Key Responsibilities
Site delivery and programme
* Manage the delivery of civils works — earthworks, drainage, roads and pavements, foundations, retaining structures and below-ground services — in line with drawings, specification and programme
* Develop, maintain and regularly update short-interval programmes, look-aheads and resource schedules
* Chair and minute daily briefings, weekly progress meetings and subcontractor coordination meetings
* Identify and report change, delay and compensation events promptly to the Contracts Manager, maintaining contemporaneous site records
Health, safety and environment
* Act as the competent site manager under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, discharging the contractor's duties on site
* Produce, review and implement risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work before works commence
* Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks and daily point-of-work briefings, and maintain accurate records of attendance and briefing content
* Lead on-site safety culture — carry out regular inspections and audits, record findings, and close out actions within agreed timescales
* Investigate and report accidents, incidents and near misses, including RIDDOR-reportable events, and drive corrective action.
Quality, technical and commercial
* Ensure works are constructed to specification and that inspection and test plans, hold points and sign-offs are completed and filed
* Manage setting out, dimensional control and as-built records, working alongside the site engineer
* Manage temporary works in accordance with BS 5975 and the company's temporary works procedure, ensuring permits, design checks and load-out approvals are in place
* Support the commercial team with measurements, dayworks records and evidence for valuations and final account.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements
* The following are mandatory. Applications without a current SMSTS certificate cannot be considered.
* CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certificate — current and in date (valid for five years; refresher required before expiry)
* CSCS card at Manager or Professionally Qualified Person level (or commitment to obtain within an agreed period)
* CITB Managers and Professionals (MAP) Health, Safety and Environment Test, passed within the last two years
* Proven experience as a Site Manager, Site Agent or Senior Supervisor on civils, groundworks or infrastructure projects
* Demonstrable working knowledge of the CDM Regulations 2015 and current construction health and safety legislation
* Sound technical understanding of civils construction methods, including drainage, earthworks, groundworks and concrete works
* Right to work in the UK & full UK driving license
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
* CITB Temporary Works Coordinator (TWCTC) certificate, or willingness to complete the course
* First Aid at Work certificate
* NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety, or equivalent
* CITB Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme (SEATS)
* NVQ/SVQ Level 4 or above in Construction Site Management (or equivalent)
* HNC/HND or degree in civil engineering or construction management
* Membership of a recognised professional body such as CIOB or the Institution of Civil Engineers
* Experience of working on Section 278 / Section 38 highway works, adoptable drainage and utility diversions
* Confined spaces, street works (NRSWA) or lifting operations awareness training
