Project Overview

We are seeking a competent Site Engineer to oversee FRC (Formwork, Reinforcement, and Concrete) structural works on a major substation project in Norfolk. This is a secure 8-month contract package focusing on high-specification reinforced concrete foundations, slabs, transformer bunds, and structural concrete bases.

You will be the primary technical presence on site for the civils team, ensuring all reinforced concrete and groundworks are executed precisely to design drawings, client specifications, and strict safety tolerances.

Key Responsibilities

Setting Out & Engineering Control: Provide accurate setting out for all structural concrete elements, including deep foundations, holding-down bolts, transformer pads, cable ducts, and drainage.

Quality Assurance (QA) & Inspections: Establish, complete, and sign off on Inspection Test Plans (ITPs). Conduct pre-pour inspections (rebar checks, formwork integrity, bolt box alignments) and manage concrete pour logs and cube testing records.

Technical Interface: Read and interpret structural drawings, bending schedules, and digital CAD/3D models. Raise clear RFIs (Requests for Information) to resolve design queries early.

Site Coordination: Work collaboratively with the Site Agent, Sub-Contractors, and steel fixers/shuttering carpenters to keep production moving smoothly and safely.

Requirements

Civils & Structural Experience: Proven track record working as a Site Engineer on heavy civil engineering or energy projects, with specific experience in FRC structures (Formwork, Rebar, Concrete).

Substation / Energy Experience (Desirable): Previous experience working within National Grid, UKPN, or energy/substation environments is highly advantageous.

Equipment Proficiency: Fully competent with modern robotic total stations (Leica/Trimble) and GPS equipment for setting out and verification.

Qualifications:

Degree, HND, or HNC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience).

Valid CSCS Card (Essential).

SSSTS/SMSTS, First Aid, or BAFE/National Grid tickets are desirable.
