Service/Manual Support technician

Apple Recruitment are recruiting for 2x Service/ Manual Support Technicians on behalf of the NI Fire and Rescue Services.

Job Purpose:

The aim of this role is to support delivery of all Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Learning &Development College (LDC) training courses and services and to help ensure an efficient and effective day-to-day running of the LDC training site. To support and assist in the maintenance of buildings and resources to ensure that equipment and facilities are available as required.

Job Description:

1. Support the delivery of all operational and command training and assist in the maintenance of buildings and resources.

2. Complete allocated tasks or workloads in order to meet the demands of a large multi-facility operational training site.

3. Liaise with Training Site Manager, TST Team Leader and Trainers to support scenario preparation and management.

4. Prepare various areas of the site and test equipment to facilitate planned activities or events. Examples include (but are not restricted to);

1. Classroom / meeting room set-up and post course arrangements.

2. Fire appliance and equipment positioning.

3. Live fire set-up and debris clearance.

4. Preparation of breathing apparatus (BA) sets and cylinder charging.

1. Maintain agreed standards of housekeeping in all training and teaching areas.

2. Management of spare fire kit and contaminated fire kit for laundering process.

3. Perform a safety role to support activities, scenario or event delivery.

4. Temperature monitoring of fire compartments and recording of relevant data.

5. Preparation, monitoring and maintenance of equipment and training areas before, during and following training activities or events

Essential Criteria:

Applicants must, by the closing date for applications, have:

1. A minimum of two years’ experience working as a driver/handyperson or similar in a maintenance and/or service delivery environment.

2. Possess a full and current UK Driving Licence with category BE.

3. Possess a LGV- Class C Licence

4. Possess a Counterbalance and Reach Forklift licence or be willing to undertake training to achieve this qualification within a specified period following appointment.

5. Possess and maintain an accredited Water Treatment Operator Certificate or be willing to undertake training to achieve this qualification within a specified period following appointment.

6. Can demonstrate:

1. Effective planning, organisation, prioritising skills and attention to detail.

2. The ability to work individually or as a team member.

3. Effective communication skills (both oral and written).

4. A working knowledge of Windows and other Microsoft applications.

5. Qualification and / or experience of working within a health & safety role

Further Details:

· Hourly Rate: Scale 6 Lot 6 SP 18 (£15.48) per hour

· Duration: Approx 6 months with possible extension

· Location: Learning and Development College, Cookstown. Some travel may be required to Boucher Crescent during the first few weeks.
