Service Charge Accountant
Birmingham

A well-established property business in Birmingham is looking to appoint an experienced Service Charge Accountant to join its finance team.
This role would suit someone with a strong background in service charge accounting who is confident managing their own portfolio, working to deadlines and building effective relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.
The role
You will take ownership of the service charge accounting process across a portfolio of properties, ensuring accounts are accurate, compliant and completed within agreed timescales.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Preparing annual service charge accounts
• Producing service charge budgets and reconciliations
• Reviewing expenditure against budget and investigating variances
• Managing accruals, prepayments and year-end adjustments
• Liaising with property managers, surveyors and clients
• Responding to service charge queries
• Supporting the year-end audit process
• Ensuring accounts are prepared in line with lease requirements and industry standards
• Maintaining accurate records across the portfolio
• Supporting improvements to processes and reporting
What we’re looking for
• Previous experience working within service charge accounting
• Strong understanding of service charge budgets and year-end accounts
• Experience working within property, real estate or a similar environment
• Good Excel skills
• Ability to manage deadlines and take ownership of a portfolio
