Description:

Experienced SEND Teacher Required for September 2026

Location: Birmingham

Start Date: September 2026

Salary: £165 - £210 per day

Are you looking for a fantastic new opportunity for September? We are looking for an experienced SEND teacher who is available ideally from the end of June 2026 (However this can be flexible for September), for a long-term placement, and for the right candidate, this could become an extended opportunity leading the provision within an Enhanced Learning Provision, the Discovery Hub.

The successful candidate would be supported by two experienced additional adults and would play a key role in supporting pupils with a range of complex communication and learning needs.

Ideally, we are looking for a SEND teacher who already has knowledge, understanding and, where possible, practical experience in some of the following areas. Whilst further training can be provided for the right candidate, it would be highly beneficial if they could demonstrate experience in several of these approaches from the outset in order to effectively support pupils immediately:

Strong understanding of communication and language development
Use of visual support systems including:

Now and Next boards
Symbols and photos
Visual timetables
Makaton
Communication / ALD boards

Everyday functional communication approaches
Breaking information into manageable chunks with calm repetition of instructions
Colourful Semantics
SCERTS (Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Support) evidence-based approach
Modelling turn-taking through motivating games and activities
Intensive Interaction
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies
Use of objects of reference
Multisensory teaching approaches, for example:

Sand, shaving foam and water play
Tapping out sounds
Active learning strategies
Air writing and sensory tracing

Pre-tutoring of key concepts
Attention Autism (Bucket Time)
Zones of Regulation
Fine motor activities such as Dough Disco
Sensory Circuits
These provisions are highlighted within many of the pupils’ EHCPs and form an important part of the daily practice within the Discovery Hub.

This role would initially be on a long term supply contract - However for the right person could become a permanent role within the school.
