Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer – Building Services
Cambridge | 3 Days Per Week | £70,000 – £80,000

A well-established Building Services consultancy is seeking a Senior or Principal Electrical Engineer to strengthen its Cambridge team on a three-day-a-week basis.

The practice delivers projects across a wide spread of sectors, including Education, Residential, Workplace & Retail, Hospitality & Leisure, Healthcare & R&D, Heritage and Student Accommodation, so no two projects look the same.

This is an ideal move for an experienced Electrical Engineer ready to step up to Principal level, or for a current Principal who wants a part-time position without giving up real technical ownership and client contact.

The Role

Sitting at the top of the electrical engineering team, you'll balance hands-on technical delivery with design leadership, mentoring and client engagement.

You'll steer electrical engineering solutions across a diverse portfolio, upholding design quality while helping to develop the wider team and driving the continued growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities

Lead electrical design across a range of building services projects

Own the technical delivery of electrical packages from concept to completion

Review and sign off calculations, specifications, drawings and technical reports

Make sure designs meet relevant regulations, standards and best practice

Guide and mentor junior and intermediate engineers

Collaborate closely with clients, architects and project teams

Build and nurture strong client relationships

Support project delivery, technical coordination and design reviews

Contribute to business development, tenders and fee proposals

Help shape and improve the consultancy's electrical engineering processes

About You

Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering

Substantial experience within a Building Services / MEP consultancy

Deep technical knowledge of electrical building services design

Proven experience at Senior Engineer level, with the drive and capability to progress to Principal

Chartered, or working towards Chartership (ideal)

Exposure to a variety of building sectors (advantageous)

A track record of mentoring or supporting less experienced engineers

Excellent communication and client-facing skills

A practical, commercially minded approach and the confidence to take ownership of projects
