We're looking for a Senior Technology Design Engineer to join our Technology Design team based in Manchester/Newcastle/Birmingham or Basingstoke.
Location: Manchester/Newcastle/Birmingham or Basingstoke – with agile working opportunity
Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.
Starting: from £42,000 per annum

We're looking for a Senior Technology Design Engineer to lead the delivery and assurance of highways technology solutions across major infrastructure programmes.
You'll act as a technical authority, owning design outputs from concept through to implementation, driving right-first-time delivery, and ensuring solutions are compliant, integrated and future-ready. Working across multidisciplinary teams, you'll play a key role in delivering ITS, communications and smart infrastructure systems aligned to National Highways standards.

What will you be responsible for?
As an Senior Technology Design Engineer, you'll be working within the Technology Design team, supporting them in delivering high-quality highways technology design solutions. Your day to day will include:
Leading the delivery of complex technology design (ITS, communications, power) from concept through to implementation
Owning design outputs, ensuring solutions are buildable, maintainable and right-first-time
Acting as technical authority within design assurance, leading reviews, checks and gateway approvals
Ensuring compliance with DMRB, National Highways and industry standards, managing technical risk
Providing SME leadership across ITS, communications networks and smart infrastructure systems
Driving multidisciplinary integration across civil, electrical, mechanical and systems teams
Acting as a key technical interface for clients, leading workshops and stakeholder engagement
Supporting programme delivery through reporting on progress, risk and performance
Driving continuous improvement, digital engineering and BIM adoption
Leading input into bids and developing innovative, compliant and competitive solutions
Mentoring and developing engineers, building team capability and high-performance culture
What are we looking for?
This role of Technology Design Engineer is great for you if:
Are Degree-qualified in Electrical, Electronic, Communications or Technology Engineering
Have significant experience in highways or infrastructure technology design
Have proven experience leading design delivery and assurance activities
Have strong knowledge of National Highways standards and governance frameworks
With technical expertise in:
ITS infrastructure and systems integration
Telecommunications and IP networks
Power and control systems
Design assurance and approval processes
Multidisciplinary coordination and systems integration
