Our client is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Lead who will be responsible for leading the team to deliver what are often large and complex safety critical software projects.

We are seeking a proven and energetic leader with a visible passion for high integrity systems and be someone who positively and directly affects the motivation and excellence of others.

You will be experienced in leading customers, in-house delivery teams and supply chains across the full software lifecycle. Above all, you will have the leadership experience, capability, strength and vision to make decisions, control complex projects and drive a team to a successful outcome. Working as a tight-knit team, with an experienced and professional Project Manager, blending your skills to form a robust leadership duo.

You will be able to balance a strong sense of process and safety with the pragmatism of engineering compromise to ensure compliant, on time on budget delivery.

Responsibilities include:

Working with an experienced Project Manager and bringing your technical expertise to jointly:

* Own the successful delivery of our projects to time, cost and quality.

* Generate complex project schedules.

* Plan, direct, drive and oversee the work of our specification, develop, test and safety teams.

* Carry out risk analyses.

* Make quick and robust decisions in the presence of risk and uncertainty.

* Ensure that safety is driven into the product throughout its development.

* Liaise with our customers and build strong and enduring relationships based on trust.

* Liaise and deal with our hardware and ISA supply chains.

* Report internally and externally to senior management with clarity and focus.

* Understand the relevant regulatory regime and ensure the project delivers to it.

* Control and manage project costs.

* Shaping technical strategy on bids and projects.

* Line managing and mentoring our mid-to-senior level staff to support their competency growth.

* Supporting the Software Engineering Director in shaping the technical direction, culture and excellence of the division.

Essential Skills

* Proven track record of technically leading teams in the delivery of large safety critical projects in relevant industries.

* 15-20 years’ experience in the full software lifecycle.

* Highly motivated and results driven and able to drive others to be the same.

* Strong decision maker and clear ability to drive an outcome.

* Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly build rapport with staff at all levels.

* Experience in leading people, building careers and capability.

* Methodical yet efficient approach to work, with good attention to detail, strong logic and reasoning skills.

* Sound business acumen and understanding of project and business finances.

Desirable skills

* Degree qualified in software engineering or related/relevant subject.

* Chartered Engineer and member of the IEEE or BCS.

* Appreciation of formal methods.

Due to the nature of the work, this role will require obtaining security clearance to SC Level. Please familiarise yourself with the security vetting process before applying
