Senior Social Worker

Islington | Locum | £39.04 per hour | Hybrid Working

Islington Council is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker to join their Child in Need / Child Protection Team. This is a frontline safeguarding role focused on supporting vulnerable children and families through effective assessment, planning, and intervention to achieve positive and sustainable outcomes.

You will manage a complex caseload, working closely with children, families, and partner agencies to reduce risk, promote stability, and ensure children receive the right support at the right time.

Working Pattern:

3 days per week in the office

Hybrid working arrangement

In this role, you will:

Manage a caseload of Child in Need and Child Protection cases

Undertake assessments and develop outcome-focused plans

Complete Section 47 enquiries and safeguarding investigations

Undertake statutory visits and direct work with children and families

Lead and participate in child protection conferences, core groups, and multi-agency meetings

Progress cases through pre-proceedings and care proceedings where required

Work collaboratively with schools, health professionals, police, and other partner agencies

Support and mentor less experienced Social Workers within the team

Prepare high-quality reports, assessments, and court documentation

Maintain accurate and timely case recordings

What You’ll Need:

Social Work England Registration

Social Work Qualification

At least 3 years’ post-qualified experience in children’s social care

Strong Child in Need and Child Protection experience

Experience managing complex safeguarding cases

Court work and pre-proceedings experience desirable

Ability to support and guide colleagues within a team environment

Excellent assessment, analytical, and communication skills
