Location: Remote (UK based) with occasional travel

Salary: £34,200 per year (plus Inner London Weighting of £3,483.94, if eligible)

Length of contract:  Permanent

Who are Women’s Aid?  

Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. We are a federation of just under 180 organisations which provide over 300 local lifesaving services to women and children across England. For 50 years we have campaigned on behalf of our members and survivors to shape policy and practice, and to raise awareness of domestic abuse. 

Our support services, which include the Survivors’ Forum, the No Woman Turned Away Project, the Survivor’s Handbook, Love Respect (our dedicated website for young people), the national Women’s Aid Directory and our advocacy projects, help thousands of women and children every year.

Purpose of the Senior Research & Evaluation Officer role:                 

This role sits within Women Aid’s Membership, Research & Evaluation department, reporting to the Evaluation and Impact Manager and line managing one Research & Evaluation Officer. This role is responsible for understanding and demonstrating the impact of Women's Aids work, ensuring ongoing learning evaluation of key projects, and providing specialist support to other projects within the department. This will include

being responsible in the delivery of a programme of monitoring, evaluation and learning within Women Aid

evaluating Women’s Aid’s work across a range of areas (eg policy, campaigning and training)

providing specialist evaluation support to all teams to enable the organisation to understand and evidence their work.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Senior Research & Evaluation Officer:

Design and implement evaluation frameworks on a variety of projects, such as our policy and campaigning work or the training we deliver. Using mixed-methods, to enable the organisation to understand and improve the impact and effectiveness of our work

Support with the commissioning and management of external evaluation of Women’s Aid activities

Lead the design and delivery of monitoring on a variety of projects, such as our policy and campaigning work, the training we deliver or our survivor services

Present and disseminate findings in an accessible and engaging way

Provide monitoring, evaluation and learning support to teams within Women’s Aid to enable self-evaluation and reflection, and to provide support around devising and implementing evaluation and learning frameworks

Use expertise and knowledge to help colleagues to identify appropriate methods to achieve research aims

Champion a culture of evidence based- decision- making and continuous learning and development

Lead on producing our annual organisation Impact Report

What we are looking for in our Senior Research & Evaluation Officer:

Knowledge and understanding of how organisations can collect, analyse and use impact and outcomes data and the range of methods and tools that can be used

Knowledge of research ethics, data protection and relevant safeguarding measures

Knowledge of different evaluation methodologies

Experience of designing project evaluations using a range of methodologies

Experience of commissioning and managing evaluation projects

Experience of collecting, managing and disseminating information in an accessible way for a variety of audiences and to facilitate learning

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with a range of audiences

Good IT skills, including for data analysis, preferably in a Windows based environment

University degree - preferably in the social sciences, or equivalent professional experience
