Senior Quantity Surveyor - Rail Infrastructure

Advance TRS are currently partnering with a leading rail infrastructure contractor to recruit a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in the South East.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a major rail framework with long-term work security, supporting the delivery of a substantial programme of maintenance and renewals works.

The Opportunity

Our client is delivering works as part of a long-term rail framework and is looking to strengthen its commercial team with the appointment of a Senior Quantity Surveyor.

This role would suit someone who enjoys working in a high-volume cost management environment, supporting live infrastructure works and working closely with both operational and commercial teams to maintain control of cost, forecasting and reporting.

This is not a heavily contractual or claims-driven role. Instead, it is better suited to someone with strong commercial and cost management capability who is comfortable operating within a collaborative project environment.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:

Managing and reporting project costs across a live programme of rail works
Supporting budgeting, forecasting and cost control activities
Understanding and managing the impact of cost escalation and commercial risk
Working closely with operational teams to gather information and challenge where necessary
Reviewing large volumes of cost data and presenting it clearly to support commercial decision-making
Supporting the wider commercial team in maintaining commercial control across a busy workbook
Building effective relationships across project, delivery and commercial functions

About You

The successful candidate is likely to have experience operating in a Senior QS or experienced QS capacity within a rail, infrastructure or major projects environment.

You will ideally have:

5-10 years' quantity surveying / commercial experience
Experience managing cost within a large organisation, framework or major project environment
Strong understanding of:
cost reporting and forecasting
budget management
cost escalation and risk mitigation
commercial processes within construction or infrastructure
Ideally, experience within the rail sector, or a good understanding of infrastructure project delivery
The confidence to challenge operational teams and obtain the information required to manage cost effectively
A proactive, resilient and organised approach

The Right Fit

This team is looking for someone who can operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and who is comfortable dealing with repetitive cost reporting and ongoing commercial management.

You'll be:

Confident and proactive
Comfortable challenging and asking the right questions
Able to build strong working relationships while still holding others to account
Organised and capable of managing a constant flow of commercial information
Keen to add value within a long-term infrastructure programme

Working Arrangements

Based in the Southeast / Kent region
3 days per week in the office minimum
Flexible hybrid working around project and team requirements

Package

Salary up to £75,000
Car allowance
Discretionary bonus
Healthcare and wider company benefits

Why Apply?

This is a strong opportunity to join a well-established contractor delivering long-term rail infrastructure works, with the chance to play a key role in a collaborative commercial team and contribute to a secure and substantial programme of work
