Senior Quantity Surveyor - Infrastructure

We’re supporting an established construction consultancy that is continuing to grow its presence across the UK infrastructure and energy market.

They’re looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team delivering a major National Grid programme in Suffolk.

This is a substantial, long-term infrastructure project involving 18km of new overhead line, 11km of underground cabling and associated substation works. The scheme is currently in pre-construction, before moving into a construction programme expected to run for approximately 3-4 years through to 2029.

It’s a good opportunity for someone who wants the security of a major long-term programme, while joining a consultancy with a growing pipeline across energy and infrastructure.

The Role

You’ll take a senior commercial role across the programme, with plenty of ownership across your packages. Working closely with the client, contractors and wider project team, you’ll lead the commercial side of delivery and help keep the programme moving.

Your role will include:

* Leading the commercial management of substation and associated infrastructure works

* Managing NEC3/NEC4 contracts and contractual change

* Assessing monthly Applications for Payment

* Preparing, reviewing and monitoring CVRs

* Managing commercial risk, cost and change throughout delivery

* Supporting procurement and supply-chain appointments

* Reviewing and supporting subcontractor approvals

* Working closely with contractors and managing commercial expectations

* Building strong relationships with client and project stakeholders

* Supporting and developing more junior members of the commercial team

What They’re Looking For

Ideally, you’ll have around 10 years Quantity Surveying / commercial experience, with a strong background working on major infrastructure projects.

A contractor-side background would be particularly valuable, as they’re looking for someone who understands how major packages operate commercially and can confidently challenge and work alongside the supply chain.

Experience within energy, substations, transmission or utilities would be ideal, although they’re equally interested in people coming from other high-value major infrastructure environments or civil engineering programmes.

Key experience we're looking for includes:

* Strong NEC3 / NEC4 experience, prefferably including Option E

* Contract administration and management of change

* Assessment of Applications for Payment

* Preparation and management of CVRs

* Supply-chain and subcontractor approvals

* Procurement and commercial package management

* Strong stakeholder management

* Confidence managing contractor expectations and commercial conversations

* Experience managing, mentoring or developing junior team members

Chartership would be beneficial, but isn’t essential. There will also be support available for anyone looking to work towards professional accreditation.

Location

The project is based between Bury St Edmunds and the Suffolk / Essex border, making it particularly accessible from Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich, Colchester and surrounding areas.

You’ll typically spend a minimum of two days per week on site, with occasional travel to Manchester for team briefings and quarterly meetings.
