Lead the Commercial Delivery of Major Water Infrastructure Projects

A leading UK Civil Engineering contractor is looking to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of projects across the South West Water AMP8 framework.
Working on a varied portfolio of utility and civil engineering schemes, you'll take ownership of commercial performance while leading and developing a team of commercial professionals. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a family-owned business that continues to invest in its people, innovation and the delivery of sustainable infrastructure across the South West.

The Role

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll play a pivotal role in the commercial management of multiple infrastructure projects, ensuring contracts are delivered profitably, risks are effectively managed and commercial objectives are achieved. Working closely with senior leadership, operational teams and clients, you'll provide commercial direction while supporting the development of the wider commercial team.

Key Responsibilities
Lead the commercial management of infrastructure projects from inception through to completion.
Work closely with commercial leadership to manage contractual obligations, commercial risks and opportunities.
Mentor, support and develop members of the commercial team.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, operational teams, subcontractors and key stakeholders.
Support the preparation of project budgets, forecasts and cost control strategies.
Oversee weekly and monthly cost value reconciliations.
Manage project cash flow, maximising income recovery and reducing work in progress.
Identify, value and negotiate contract variations.
Oversee subcontract procurement, ensuring packages are commercially robust and administered in line with company procedures.
Provide commercial advice and support to operational delivery teams.
Lead final account negotiations and commercial close-out activities.
Drive continuous improvement across commercial processes and project delivery. About You

You'll be an experienced commercial professional with a strong background in civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure, capable of leading complex projects while developing high-performing teams.

Ideally, you'll have:

Previous experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within the civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure sector.
Strong knowledge of NEC forms of contract and contractual compliance.
Experience managing commercial risk across complex infrastructure projects.
Proven ability to prepare and manage cost value reconciliations, cost forecasting and financial reporting.
Experience managing project cash flow and leading final account negotiations.
Strong negotiation skills when working with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
The ability to mentor and develop junior commercial professionals.
A proactive, commercially focused approach with excellent attention to detail.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced project environment. Please note: Sponsorship is not available for this position.
