Good Growth is responsible for delivering and implementing the Mayor’s environment, transport and economic strategies and for the effective implementation of the London Plan. The Directorate is also responsible for regeneration (where the programme is not housing led), enterprise, growth, capital projects and design work.

About the team

The role is based within the Culture, Creative Industries and 24 Hour London Unit at the GLA. The Unit delivers the Mayor’s Culture Strategy for London, aiming to provide Londoners with access to culture on their doorsteps.

We do this through a wide range of programmes that support the arts and creative industries to grow and be accessible to all, and the capital to become the number one destination for 24-hour culture and entertainment. Projects include the Creative Economy Growth programme, Creative Enterprise Zones, the East Bank culture and education quarter, the Fourth Plinth contemporary art commission series, London Borough of Culture and the Night Time Enterprise Zones.

About the role

As Senior Programme Officer you will work with internal and external stakeholders to develop strategic partnerships which add value to the Mayor’s Diversity in the Public Realm policy. You will design and deliver a stakeholder holder engagement plan that supports more diverse representation in London’s public realm. This includes developing new partner relationships and managing the relationships with grant recipients of the Untold Stories grant programme.

The Mayor’s Diversity in the Public Realm is a flagship programme which aims to cement London’s reputation as a diverse, global city. It seeks to create an equitable approach to London’s public spaces, as places for all Londoners, promote good practice and bring greater transparency to the public realm commissioning process itself. The programme has been developed in consultation with a specially appointed Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm.

What your day will look like:

This will be a varied role working to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships as part of the legacy from the Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm. You will:

Deliver a stakeholder engagement plan that works with GLA policy teams, the Partners Board and Borough Working group and other networks across London with an interest in diversifying in the public realm.

Identify opportunities to advocate and disseminate the impact of the Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm programme on London’s communities.

Plan and deliver of stakeholder events in coordination with relevant GLA teams.

Maintain relationships with Untold Stories grant recipients and manage the close down of the grant programme. As the lead officer for the Untold Stories you will also contribute to GLA wide reviews of funding programmes and provide broader grant programme expertise to the Unit.

You will also:

Oversee the financial management of the programme budget, including all internal reporting within the Unit and to governance teams.

Coordinate procurement activities and ongoing management of contracts, and to establish and maintain sound governance and monitoring procedures for the programme.

Skills, knowledge and experience

To be considered for the role you must meet the following essential criteria:

Demonstrable understanding of London’s diverse communities.

Strong stakeholder management, excellent communication, negotiating and influencing skills and knowledge of issues relating to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Experience of drafting and editing copy and correspondence to communicate with a wide and varied readership.

Experience working on and supporting projects in a complex political environment, including working closely with public figures or senior management
