Senior Practitioner – Child Protection Inquiry Team
Location: Birmingham, West Midlands Rate: £33.29 per hour Umbrella Contract: Agency / Locum – Initial 3 months, with potential extension Working: Hybrid – 2 days per week in office
We are recruiting an experienced Senior Practitioner to join a Child Protection Inquiry Team in Birmingham.
This is an excellent opportunity for a confident safeguarding professional to join a fast-paced service completing Section 47 Child Protection Enquiries and, where appropriate, Section 17 assessments. The team focuses on short-term safeguarding work, with cases transferred to longer-term services once enquiries are completed.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and undertake complex Section 47 enquiries and child protection assessments.
* Manage a small caseload, typically 3–4 children, allowing for focused and high-quality practice.
* Participate in a duty rota approximately every four weeks.
* Respond to new safeguarding referrals and assess risk.
* Undertake statutory home visits and work directly with children and families.
* Provide professional advice and support to colleagues where required.
* Work closely with partner agencies to safeguard children and promote positive outcomes.
* Produce high-quality assessments, reports and recording within statutory timescales.
* Contribute to effective risk management and decision-making.
Requirements
* Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
* Significant experience in Child Protection, Safeguarding or Children's Assessment.
* Strong experience undertaking Section 47 enquiries.
* Excellent assessment, analytical and risk-management skills.
* Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
* Strong multi-agency communication and partnership-working skills.
* Previous experience at Senior Practitioner level is desirable.
* Access to a car is desirable due to statutory visits.
