Calling all Planning Engineers!
Building a Sustainable Tomorrow
The Client is looking to recruit an experienced and motivated Planning Engineer to lead the planning on the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) Construction Framework. This role will involve planning works to upgrade research stations and facilities in Antarctica, including the construction of a new hangar building, a new operations building, future renewable projects, dismantling of existing facilities, and the overall replacement of the research station with the goal of moving to carbon net zero stations over a 9+ year framework contract.
The role also offers the opportunity to visit Antarctica as part of the planning effort.
Work Environment
The Client operates a flexible working policy. This role is predominantly based at the BAS headquarters in Cambridge, but flexible/hybrid proposals will be considered.
Mission
The Planning Engineer will be responsible for the following:
Developing and maintaining detailed programmes in P6 from first principles, including resource loading.
Integration and management of sub-contractor programmes with the Client's own.
Assimilating and interpreting information from tender and project documentation.
Developing multiple what-if scenarios to help the Client and project team optimize logistics in Antarctica.
Understanding civil construction techniques and developing them into a working programme.
Coordinating with estimators and commercial teams on all programme aspects.
Compiling concise narratives, phasing, reports, and supporting documents for input into quality submissions for tenders and projects.
Taking ownership of the programme to drive project delivery.
Utilizing planning techniques and tools to communicate the programme effectively.
Contributing, supporting, and communicating programme information, risk, and commercial issues to operational teams in a variety of formats.
Producing and chairing collaborative planning workshops with clients, operational teams, and subcontractors (depending on project requirements).
Updating and monitoring project progress, and compiling reports against project and contract requirements.
Introducing and analyzing changes in programmes and supporting the commercial teams.
Evaluating supply chain and subcontract programmes.
Maintaining awareness of the latest construction techniques.
Requirements
Experience within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment with a partnering approach with the customer.
Experience of delivering programmes under the NEC form of contract in the UK market is preferable.
At least 3+ years of construction experience (Civils/Building) and the ability to communicate and manage one's own workload.
A qualification in Civil Engineering/Construction to HND level or equivalent is preferred but not essential.
Competence in the use of various planning software, P6 is a must.
Demonstrable ability to develop, own, and drive programmes.
Effective communication skills with all parties.
Comfort in presenting and client-facing situations.
Experience working closely with site construction teams and understanding each "customer's" programme requirements.
Clear ability for logical thinking and working in an ordered fashion.
Ability to work to often challenging timescales.
Understanding of 4D planning techniques and software, including Synchro Pro (4D).
Experience in producing summary construction or project control information in Excel and Power BI would be an advantage.
Tender experience would be an advantage.
Good commercial and contractual acumen.
