Senior Planner - Based in Bridgewater, Birmingham or North Yorkshire

Overview

Our client, a leading civil engineering contractor, is seeking an experienced Senior Planner to join a major infrastructure programme. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the planning and delivery of complex civil engineering works, working closely with project teams to ensure programmes are robust, achievable, and accurately reflect project performance.

The successful candidate will have strong Primavera P6 expertise, a solid understanding of NEC contracts, and experience assessing and managing Compensation Events. An engineering or construction background is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and update detailed project programmes using Primavera P6.

Produce baseline programmes, progress updates, recovery plans, and what-if scenarios.

Work closely with project managers, site teams, commercial teams, and subcontractors to ensure programmes accurately reflect project scope and delivery strategy.

Monitor project progress, identify risks and opportunities, and recommend mitigation measures.

Support the preparation and assessment of NEC Compensation Events, including programme impact analysis and entitlement assessments.

Undertake delay and disruption analysis where required.

Produce programme reports, critical path analysis, earned value metrics, and performance dashboards for senior stakeholders.

Facilitate planning workshops and progress review meetings.

Ensure programme compliance with contractual requirements and project controls procedures.

Support tender planning and project lifecycle planning activities as required.

Requirements

Proven experience working as a Senior Planner on major civil engineering, infrastructure, rail, highways, energy, utilities, or construction projects.

Advanced Primavera P6 skills.

Strong understanding of NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts.

Demonstrable experience supporting or assessing Compensation Events and programme impacts.

Strong knowledge of critical path analysis, progress measurement, and programme reporting.

Ability to engage effectively with operational, commercial, and client stakeholders.

Excellent analytical and communication skills.

Desirable

Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering discipline.

Previous site engineering or engineering delivery experience.

Experience working for a Tier 1 or major civil engineering contractor.

Knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM) and project controls principles.
