Senior Physical Climate Risk Modeller

£50-60k

We are recruiting for our specialist tech start up clients, with a clear mission statement; you will be joining a business who are using their product to assist some of the biggest global brands in their pathway to become Net Zero.

We are looking for a Senior Risk Modeller to join our client’s mission of assisting businesses in managing their exposure and response to the dual nature-climate crisis – the two biggest systemic threats facing the economy.

They have developed a unique modelling and analytics platform, established on over a decade of influential frameworks. The outcomes of their models aid corporations in assessing and navigating the risks and opportunities presented by the transition to a low-carbon, nature-positive economy.

Their software platform, along with our advisory services, supports companies in producing climate- and nature-related analytics to navigate their pathway to net zero and sustainable business practices.

The role

* Part of the environmental analytics team based in our Cambridge office.

* Flexible/hybrid working options available, although the majority of time will be spent in the Cambridge office.

* Responsibilities include assisting in the development and maintenance of environmental and risk models.

* Focus on physical climate risk modelling and developing new models and methods.

* Expected to be a thought leader within the team, applying expertise across nature and climate.

* Senior role involving handling complex datasets, conducting analytics, and building rigorous models.

* Work involves quantifying the probability, consequences, and financial impacts of nature and climate risk scenarios.

* Generate new insights through visualisation and representation of outputs.

* Collaborate with clients on consulting projects and present advanced modelling results directly to them.

* Work alongside a skilled team of modellers, economists, data scientists, and software engineers.

* Contribute to the broader company's development and support Risilience in its mission towards a sustainable future.

The candidate

* Bachelor's or higher degree in natural sciences, mathematics, physics, or a related quantitative discipline.

* At least three years' post-qualification experience.

* Expertise in relevant physical scientific topics related to climate change and/or catastrophe risk, or quantitative modelling.

* Familiarity with climate science and an ability to use or interpret the outputs of climate models and published datasets to produce customised analytics and models (e.g. IPCC and CMIP6).

* Demonstrated experience with a programming language such as Python (preferred) or another language.

* Excellent problem-solving skills, including the ability to learn new topics and develop innovative solutions.

* Demonstrated experience synthesising information from various sources to create new knowledge or novel solutions; experience applying data science to real-world problems.

* An ability to source information; organise and interpret datasets; and present and communicate results effectively.

* An interest in climate change and/or nature risks and how these may impact business.
