Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer

Purpose of the Role

To provide professional mechanical building services design and technical expertise across Luton Borough Council's property portfolio, delivering new build, refurbishment and decarbonisation projects while ensuring compliance, value for money, sustainability and high-quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Design and deliver mechanical building services projects across schools, corporate buildings, community facilities and council-owned assets.
Produce and review mechanical designs, specifications, calculations, drawings and technical reports.
Undertake site surveys and condition assessments of existing mechanical installations.
Prepare project budgets, support procurement activities and monitor project performance.
Inspect, commission and certify mechanical installations.
Provide expert technical advice to schools, building managers, contractors and internal stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Building Regulations and industry standards.
Promote energy efficiency, sustainability and decarbonisation across the Council's property portfolio.
Contribute to continuous improvement, innovation and best practice within the Design & Project Delivery Team.

Ideal Candidate

Qualified Mechanical Engineer with experience in Building Services.
Strong understanding of HVAC, heating, ventilation and public health systems.
Experience delivering refurbishment and new-build projects.
Skilled in site surveys, technical reporting and contract administration.
Experience working with schools, public sector buildings, healthcare, housing or commercial properties.
Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
