Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (HVAC) – Greater Manchester - Pharmaceutical, Healthcare & Life Sciences Projects – Contract or Permanent!

Our client is looking to recruit an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (HVAC) to join their growing design team based in Greater Manchester. Working for a well-established engineering contractor, you will play a key role in delivering complex turnkey projects across the Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, Food & Beverage and Life Sciences sectors.

Reporting directly to the Design Lead, you will take ownership of mechanical and HVAC design from concept through to detailed design, procurement support, construction and commissioning. This is an excellent opportunity to work on technically challenging projects including laboratories, cleanrooms, sterile manufacturing facilities and high-specification process environments.

The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for:

* Delivering mechanical and HVAC designs across all RIBA design stages.

* Producing detailed mechanical building services designs suitable for procurement and installation.

* Developing HVAC solutions for GMP and ISO 14644 compliant facilities.

* Undertaking plant sizing, equipment selection, space planning and distribution routing.

* Supporting procurement by producing schedules and reviewing supplier quotations.

* Providing technical support throughout construction and commissioning.

* Attending client meetings and carrying out site surveys when required.

* Producing design risk assessments in accordance with CDM Regulations.

* Mentoring and supporting junior design engineers.

* Working within ISO 9001 quality procedures to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

Projects You'll Work On

* Pharmaceutical and Life Science facilities

* Healthcare and laboratory projects

* Cleanrooms and sterile manufacturing environments

* Research, development and production facilities

Experience Required

* HVAC and mechanical building services design

* Ventilation and air conditioning systems

* Heating, cooling and chilled water systems

* Steam and hot water systems

* Cleanroom and process ventilation

* Building Management Systems (BMS)

* Compressed air and specialist gas systems

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have:

* HNC or Degree in Building Services Engineering or a related discipline

* Experience designing HVAC and mechanical building services

* Previous experience within pharmaceutical, healthcare, laboratory or other regulated industries

* Knowledge of Hevacomp, IES or similar building services design software

* AutoCAD experience

* Good understanding of CDM Regulations and design risk assessments

* Experience supporting projects through design, procurement and construction

* Strong communication skills with the ability to work closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams

* Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality standards
