Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Gloucester (Hybrid Working)
Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 + Excellent Benefits
Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to play a key role in supporting, developing and enhancing their global IT infrastructure. This is a senior technical position, ideal for someone who enjoys remaining hands-on whilst taking ownership of enterprise infrastructure projects, driving technical improvements and acting as a senior escalation point across the IT function.
Working within a collaborative IT team, you'll help ensure business-critical systems remain secure, resilient and highly available while contributing to the future direction of the organisation's infrastructure.
What you'll be doing
Designing, implementing and maintaining secure, scalable IT infrastructure across multiple sites.
Supporting enterprise networking, virtualisation, server infrastructure and Microsoft Azure cloud services.
Leading the technical delivery of infrastructure projects, including upgrades, migrations and new technology implementations.
Acting as the senior technical escalation point for complex infrastructure issues and major incidents.
Performing root cause analysis and implementing long-term improvements to increase resilience and performance.
Supporting disaster recovery planning, business continuity testing and infrastructure resilience initiatives.
Working closely with internal stakeholders to understand technical requirements and deliver robust infrastructure solutions.
Collaborating with third-party vendors and service providers to support infrastructure services and project delivery.
Ensuring infrastructure complies with security best practice and standards including ISO 27001, GDPR and Cyber Essentials.
Identifying opportunities to modernise infrastructure through automation, cloud adoption and emerging technologies.
What we're looking for
Significant experience in senior infrastructure engineering or technical infrastructure roles.
Strong expertise across Microsoft infrastructure, networking, virtualisation and enterprise systems administration.
Proven experience with Microsoft Azure and hybrid cloud environments.
Experience supporting VMware environments.
Strong understanding of enterprise networking, storage, backup and disaster recovery solutions.
Experience delivering infrastructure projects from design through to implementation.
Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
Knowledge of infrastructure security, patch management and vulnerability remediation.
Familiarity with ITIL processes and change management principles would be beneficial.
Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams. Desirable Certifications
Microsoft Azure certifications (Azure Administrator or equivalent)
VMware certifications
CompTIA Security+
ITIL Foundation or equivalent
