Role: Senior Embedded Electronic Engineer

Located: Tadworth, Surrey (4x days a week onsite)

Salary: Competitive

Main Purpose:

Working within the existing team you will be involved with NPI&NPE/ developing the hardware and software of existing and new products; battery powered remote telemetry units / IoT (industrialized electronics) using complex microcontroller/ARM processors and modems that uses wireless technologies (e.g. GPRS/3G, ISM) for generating & transporting accurate data using sensors like RADAR, Temperature, Water Quality, Contamination/Smell and more. The role will cover all areas of a product's lifecycle, electronic prototyping, design development, CAD/CAM schematic design, Artwork/layout, and technical support with contract manufacturers for quality and regulatory assessments.

Principle accountabilities:

Responsible for Electronic /IoT product hardware through all phases of the product life cycle development
Participate in, or when required, deliver the product development activities (circuit design, analysis, improvements, alternate parts etc.) for designated products or customers.
Ensure that all product development specifications conform to the company engineering (R&D) design authority for customer requirements and set out specific verifications and validations implementation needs for the product assurance.
Manage the production of complete products through PCB, Placing the components, Board Bring up and tests through platform integrations until the EOL.
Ensure the BOM is maintained with update components that has long life and value for money.
Design should be adhere the certification or ATEX standards to qualify the RoSH, UL & EN, FCC, CE and UK CA.
Ensure that product and design documentation is maintained.
Provide inputs in to the sales process as required by the Engineering Director, including attending and participating in presentations to customers or other third parties.
Collaborate with cross functional teams to remove dependencies and risks during development life cycle and customer supports/returns etc.
Provide technical support to customers using online ticketing system.

Knowledge / Experience Required:

Very good knowledge electronics components, connecting the components in a circuit/ interfaces to develop a PCB.
PCB design: layer stack-up, design rules (best practices), electro-magnetic & mechanical distribution design. Working with design review process and negotiating with internal & external electronic development house to make a successful PCB
Produce Circuit design & schematic capture using Altium/Mentor/OraCAD/AutoDesk PCB design tool. Maintain Altium component library & 3D models and designs database.
Undertake PCB analysis of PCB designs from engineers for RF or Thermal issues and feedback results
Create & maintain drawing & documents to allow PCB manufacture to BS/ATEX standards
Investigate and define answers to PCB design problems via NCR's from manufacturing.
Capture legacy PCB designs with a view to transferring them to Altium as needed to support manufacture
Regulatory certifications like CE, FCC, UL, EN etc.
Low-power design for digital electronics, SMPS and LDO
Mobile communications: GPRS/3G/4G, LPWAN/LoRa/NB-IoT
RF and EMI/EMC design practices, CE Standards and Conformance
Design for hazardous environments: ATEX/Explosive Environments, IP ratings
Software design: RTOS (MQX), C++, Assembler, C#, ARM Cortex processors, Linux, Jira, SVN
Industrial Protocols: IEC(phone number removed), 4-20mA, Modbus, PROFINET, M-Bus, SDI-12, WITS, DNP3

Additional Knowledge / Experience:

Experience with HDL languages such as Verilog, VHDL, and SystemC.
Good understanding of software languages and integration processes.
Exceptional attention to detail and precision.
Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
Experience of Eclipse based IDE's and use of JTAG debugging tools
Experienced user of IT equipment and Microsoft Office Software suite

Education / Experience:

Degree level qualification in Electronic Engineering or related course. General education including A Level passes or equivalent
At least two to three years post qualification experience in an electronic engineering or embedded programming environment.
Good in designing and developing components such as printed circuit boards (PCB), processors, memory modules, and network components. Hands-on experience in electrical and electronics circuits using embedded using microprocessor or microcontrollers with bare metal in nature
CAD/CAM tools: Schematic design, PCB layout, and artwork software e.g. Altium Designer, OrCAD, KiCad, Eagle, Gerber Viewers.
Familiarity with ARM based microprocessors and microcontrollers
Experience in ATEX design essentials with peripheral electronics components behaviours during validation/verification ( e.g. UART, SPI, ADC, Interrupts, GPIO, SRAM, Flash)
Testing hardware prototypes and analysing and interpreting performance data.
Generating analytic and performance reports for presentation and revision.
Troubleshooting and diagnosing errors and suggesting suitable repairs or modifications.
Overseeing the manufacturing process of electrical components to ensure they meet the design specifications
Collaborating with firmware/software engineers to ensure software compatibility and integration with the hardware components.
Testing hardware prototypes and analysing / validating and interpreting performance data.
Full UK Driving License
