Description:

Senior Design Manager | Residential Main Contractor | High Street Kensington | Permanent | Hybrid Working

I’m working with a growing London main contractor who are looking to appoint a Design Manager as they prepare for a significant increase in workload.

The business currently turns over approximately £50m and has two major projects progressing through PCSA, including a residential development comprising approximately 240 apartments.

They are also forecasting nine to ten project starts next year, creating a strong platform for someone who wants long-term progression and genuine influence.

This is an office-led role based in High Street Kensington, with the Design Manager working across pre-construction and live residential projects.

The Role

Managing the design process from PCSA and pre-construction through to project delivery
Coordinating architects, structural engineers, MEP consultants and specialist subcontractors
Reviewing design information for buildability, compliance, programme and commercial risk
Producing and managing design programmes, trackers and information-release schedules
Leading design-team meetings and ensuring actions are closed out
Managing RFIs, technical submissions, drawings and consultant information
Supporting tendering, procurement and subcontractor design development
Working closely with commercial, operational and pre-construction teams
Providing design support across multiple projects when required
Supporting BREEAM requirements and coordinating relevant project information
Current and Upcoming Projects

Two major schemes currently progressing through PCSA
One residential development comprising approximately 240 apartments
A recently commenced residential scheme in Ashford comprising four seven-storey blocks
Approximately nine to ten anticipated project starts next year
Wider pipeline covering residential, mixed-use, refurbishment and commercial developments
What they’re looking for

Design Manager with main-contractor or developer experience
An architectural background is strongly preferred
Strong understanding of residential design and construction
Experience managing projects through PCSA and pre-construction
Capable of coordinating architectural, structural and building-services information
BREEAM knowledge or previous involvement would be advantageous
Comfortable working across multiple projects and managing external consultants
The Business

Established in 2009
Approximately £50m annual turnover
Extensive residential and mixed-use development pipeline
More than 100 completed and pipeline projects
Collaborative structure with direct access to senior management
Opportunity to shape design-management systems as the company grows
Strong forecasted workload with numerous projects expected to commence next year
High Street Kensington office
Flexible working with one to two days working from home
