Senior Civil Project Engineer – Water
Location: Portsmouth
Rate: £500 per day
Duration: 12 months+, ongoing
Sector: Water / Wastewater
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Civil Project Engineer to support the delivery of a major clean water project for a leading delivery partner to Southern Water.
Based in Portsmouth, you’ll work across the full project lifecycle, from planning and design coordination through to construction, commissioning and handover. Working closely with Project Managers, site teams, designers and subcontractors, you’ll help deliver multidisciplinary works safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.
This is a long-term contract opportunity offering a varied mix of technical, commercial and operational responsibilities.
Key responsibilities

Support project delivery from initial planning through to completion and handover.

Coordinate programmes, resources and engineering activities across design and construction teams.
*
Ensure works comply with project specifications, quality standards and health and safety requirements.
*
Monitor progress, identify risks and resolve technical and operational issues.
*
Support procurement and coordinate suppliers and subcontractors.
*
Assist with cost control, forecasting and commercial reporting.
*
Prepare and review technical submissions, risk assessments, method statements and progress reports.
*
Support testing, commissioning and handover activities.
*
Maintain strong working relationships with the client and wider project stakeholders.
*
Identify opportunities to improve project delivery.
What we’re looking for
*
Proven experience delivering civil engineering projects within the water, wastewater or wider utilities sector.
*
A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering.
*
A strong understanding of project planning, procurement, cost control and contract administration.
*
The ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and manage competing priorities.
*
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
*
A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required.
Desirable
*
Knowledge and experience of NEC contracts.
*
Understanding of relevant construction and health and safety legislation.
*
EUSR Water Hygiene.
*
CSCS card.
*
First Aid at Work qualification.
