Senior Analytical Chemist Testing Laboratory

Location: Newmarket
Type: Permanent
Salary: CIRCA £26,000 depending on experience

Russell Taylor Group is working with a global testing company who are looking to recruit an experienced Senior Chemist ready to step up into a Senior role.

The Role:

• Ensuring workloads on allocated stations are processed to meet timescales determined by customers and the business
• People management responsibility for the team on a day to-day-basis i.e. sickness, back to work interviews, annual leave and productivity, task allocation/prioritization.
• Sample preparation, as required
• Principal responsibility for resolutions and decisions within the team to resolve day to day issues
• Monitoring and ensuring quality control in compliance with laboratory quality systems.
• Highlighting key problems or successes for the team to the Divisional manager and/or Laboratory Director
• Maintaining the laboratory equipment in line with safety certification and operating manuals.
• Managing the performance and development of staff and assisting the laboratory manager with their appraisals in line with Company policies and procedures.
• Responsible for collecting/reporting data of the team's performances/KPI's and highlighting any trends for the laboratory manager.
• Interact with other departments/stakeholders in a professional manner to help answer queries or questions.
• Work closely with other departments Section Heads to ensure labour is divided in the most impactful manner to maintain overall target(s)
• Actively implement and help design improvements through LEAN or other means with a view reduce TAT between Preparation and Laboratory and reduce costing for the department whenever possible.
• To advise others to work in a professional and safe manner
• To Ensure the Quality standards are upheld and implemented in the department
• To comply with all the Health and Safety and ISO14001 requirements of your role, and perform any other reasonable duties as required by the Business.

The Person:

• Will hold a Degree in a relevant - Scientific/ Chemistry based discipline (or higher)
• 2+ years experience in an analytical - organic testing laboratory working to UKAS 17025 standards
• GC MS/ GC and/or HPLC experience in and UKAS testing lab or similar with troubleshooting experience.
• Experience in training analysts on associated test equipment & QMS.
• Experience in reporting analytical results internally and externally
• Strong interpersonal skills
