SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: North Somerset
Salary: £100 - £120 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)
Start Date: September 2026
About the Role
Connex Education is currently recruiting passionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants to support a variety of specialist schools across North Somerset from September 2026.
These roles involve working within specialist educational settings that support children and young people with a range of additional needs including Autism (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), SEMH needs, communication difficulties and complex needs.
We are looking for compassionate and adaptable individuals who are committed to helping pupils achieve their full potential within supportive and nurturing environments. Opportunities are available on a day-to-day, short-term, and long-term basis, offering flexibility to suit your availability and career goals.
Key Responsibilities
Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups within the classroom
Assist teachers in delivering engaging and accessible learning activities
Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and social development
Promote positive behaviour and encourage independence where appropriate
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and pastoral teams
Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Adapt support strategies to meet individual pupil needs
What We’re Looking For
Experience working with children or young people with SEND, SEMH, or additional needs is desirable
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one through Connex Education
