Employer: Transparency Education

Make a meaningful difference every day

Transparency Education is seeking an experienced and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with Down syndrome at a welcoming primary school in Lambeth.

This is an excellent opportunity for a patient, resilient and nurturing professional who understands that progress looks different for every child. You will help the pupil participate in classroom learning, develop independence and enjoy a safe, positive school experience.

About the pupil

The pupil is a non-violent Year 2 boy with Down syndrome who requires consistent, personalised support throughout the school day. He can be strong-willed, so the successful candidate will need to establish clear routines, maintain calm boundaries and use positive strategies to encourage engagement.

The role also includes providing personal care, including nappy changing. Applicants must be comfortable carrying out these duties respectfully while protecting the pupil’s dignity, privacy and wellbeing.

Your responsibilities

Provide attentive 1:1 support throughout lessons and school activities

Adapt tasks and resources to suit the pupil’s individual learning needs

Encourage communication, participation and increasing independence

Use patient, positive and consistent approaches to manage resistance

Support transitions, routines and emotional regulation

Provide sensitive personal care, including nappy changing

Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team

Monitor progress and communicate relevant observations

Maintain high standards of safeguarding and confidentiality

What we’re looking for

Previous experience supporting children with SEND is essential

Experience working 1:1 with a child in a school or similar setting

A calm, caring and resilient approach

Confidence supporting personal care needs

The ability to establish clear, consistent boundaries

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Reliability, professionalism and a genuine commitment to inclusion

A relevant Teaching Assistant or SEND qualification is preferred and advantageous, but strong practical SEND experience is the priority.
