SEND Teaching Assistant – Primary School

Location: Hertfordshire

Pay: £101.50–£105 per day

Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary

Start date: 21 September 2026

Teach Now is recruiting an experienced, caring SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming, inclusive primary school in Hertfordshire.

Working across Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, you will support pupils with autism (ASC), social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), communication difficulties and associated learning needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to build trusting relationships and help children develop confidence and independence.

This diverse community primary school provides a nurturing environment where every child feels valued. You will join a collaborative team, working closely with class teachers, the SENCo and external specialists to deliver personalised support.

Your responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support, adapting activities to pupils needs.

• Follow EHCPs, individual support plans and behaviour strategies.

• Support emotional regulation, communication, sensory needs and social skills.

• Use visual timetables, now-and-next boards and other personalised resources.

• Help pupils manage transitions and less structured times, including breaktimes.

• Monitor progress and share observations with teachers and the SENCo.

• Experience supporting primary-aged children with SEND, particularly autism, SEMH or complex needs.

• A calm, patient and consistent approach to behaviour and emotional support.

• Strong communication skills and the flexibility to work across year groups.

• A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education.

• A relevant Teaching Assistant or childcare qualification is desirable.
