Description:

SEND Teaching Assistant (Internal SEND Hub)

Location: Ashington, Northumberland

Position: Full-Time, Long-Term

Hours: Monday – Friday, 08:30 – 15:30 (Term time only)

Start Date: September 2026 / As soon as possible

Are you passionate about making a real difference in children's lives? Do you want to work in a dedicated, supportive environment where your efforts directly impact pupils who need it most?

A welcoming primary school in Ashington, Northumberland is seeking a dedicated and adaptable SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is a full-time, long-term role based within the school’s bespoke internal SEND Hub—a specialized, nurturing space designed to support children with diverse special educational needs and disabilities.

The Role

Unlike traditional 1:1 roles, this position focuses primarily on group-based support within the SEND Hub. You will work alongside a passionate team to deliver tailored interventions, manage small-group learning activities, and create an inclusive environment where pupils can thrive.

While your day-to-day focus will be on groups, flexibility is key, as you may occasionally be required to provide high-quality 1:1 support for specific students when needed.

Key Responsibilities

*

Support groups of children within the SEND Hub, adapting learning activities to meet their individual social, emotional, and academic needs.

*

Work collaboratively with the class teachers and the SENDCo to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

*

Provide 1:1 targeted support for pupils when required, helping them engage with the curriculum and build independence.

*

Assist in managing the classroom environment, ensuring it remains a safe, positive, and structured space for learning.

*

Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, helping to boost their confidence and emotional well-being.

What We Are Looking For

*

Experience: Ideally, you will have prior experience working with SEND children or a background as a Support Worker. However, this is not essential. A resilient attitude, a willingness to learn, and genuine empathy are far more important.

*

Attributes: You must be patient, adaptable, and a fantastic team player. The ability to stay calm under pressure and use your initiative is vital.

*

Reliability: As this is a full-time, long-term position, consistency is crucial for our pupils. You must be able to commit to the 08:30 – 15:30, Monday to Friday routine.

*

Requirements: An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service is required (or willingness to apply for one), along with suitable professional references.

What the School Offers

*

A highly supportive and collaborative staff team dedicated to inclusive education.

*

Excellent resources within a modern, purpose-built school SEND Hub.

*

Opportunities for ongoing professional development and specialized SEND training.

*

A rewarding role where no two days are the same and your impact is visible every day
