About the Role

Teach Now is seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant for a dedicated 1:1 role supporting a deaf pupil in Year 1 at an inclusive primary school in Islington.

You will help a five- to six-year-old pupil access classroom learning, understand instructions and participate confidently in everyday school life. Using communication approaches agreed with the school, you will provide calm, consistent support while encouraging independence and inclusion alongside classmates.

You will receive a thorough handover and relevant training, with ongoing guidance from the class teacher and wider school team. The school is looking for someone reliable who can provide continuity through Christmas and build a trusting relationship with the pupil over time.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with experience supporting young children who would like to develop further experience in deaf support and inclusive education.

Key Responsibilities

Provide consistent 1:1 support to a deaf Year 1 pupil throughout lessons and daily routines.

Help make instructions and classroom activities accessible using agreed communication approaches.

Encourage participation with classmates while promoting confidence and independence.

Provide calm reassurance and clear, consistent expectations.

Share observations with the class teacher and work closely with school staff.

Apply learning from the handover and training to maintain consistent support.

Requirements

Experience working with young children, preferably within EYFS or Key Stage 1.

A genuine interest in supporting deaf pupils and inclusive education.

Ability to follow communication strategies and guidance provided by the school.

Availability to attend a handover, complete relevant training and provide continuity through Christmas.

Reliable attendance, strong communication skills and a patient, consistent approach.

The right to work in the UK and willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS and other safeguarding checks.

What the School Offers

A structured handover and relevant training for the 1:1 role.

Ongoing guidance from the class teacher and wider school team.

Valuable experience supporting deaf education and communication.

An inclusive primary environment focused on participation and independence.

The opportunity to build a meaningful, consistent relationship with one pupil.
