SEND Teacher – PMLD and SLD
Location: Hertfordshire
Salary: £39,196–£58,120 (M1–UPS3), depending on experience and position on the teacher pay scale
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Hours: 8:30am–3:30pm, term time only
Start date: 2 November 2026
Teach Now is seeking a passionate and experienced SEND Teacher to join a supportive specialist school in Hertfordshire. This is a rewarding opportunity to help pupils with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and severe learning disabilities (SLD) reach their full potential.
Previous teaching experience within a special school is essential for this position.
The role
As a SEND Teacher, you will:
• Plan and deliver engaging, highly differentiated lessons.
• Create a safe, structured and nurturing classroom environment.
• Set and review individual learning targets.
• Contribute to EHCP reviews and wider pupil-planning meetings.
• Lead and work closely with teaching assistants and support staff.
• Collaborate with families, therapists and external professionals.
• Support pupils with personal care needs.
• Participate in swimming sessions with pupils.
• Monitor progress and celebrate achievements across all areas of development.
• Potentially lead a National Curriculum subject area.
• Contribute to extracurricular activities and occasional after-school events.
About you
The successful SEND Teacher will:
• Hold UK QTS and have successfully completed Initial Teacher Training.
• Have recent teaching experience in a special school or similar specialist setting.
• Have experience supporting pupils with PMLD and SLD.
• Be comfortable supporting personal care and taking part in swimming sessions.
• Have high expectations for every pupil and a strong commitment to inclusion.
• Communicate effectively with families, colleagues and external professionals.
• Be organised, reliable and able to lead a classroom team.
• Be committed to safeguarding and have the right to work in the UK.
A SEND specialism, relevant first aid or medical training, and experience in curriculum development would be advantageous.
