Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced SEND professional to join our team as a SEND Start/EHCP Coordinator. This is an exciting opportunity to support children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and ensure they receive the right support to achieve positive outcomes.

The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating the Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessment process for children and young people aged 0–25, ensuring statutory duties are met and that families remain at the centre of decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Act as the main point of contact for parents/carers and young people engaging in the Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessment process.

Coordinate the EHC assessment process for children and young people aged 0–25.

Ensure the views, wishes and aspirations of children, young people and their families are fully captured and reflected throughout the process.

Work collaboratively with schools, educational settings, health professionals, social care teams and voluntary sector organisations.

Monitor and ensure compliance with statutory timescales for EHC assessments and annual reviews.

Prepare high-quality draft Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

Facilitate meaningful and outcome-focused reviews of existing EHCPs.

Attend mediation meetings and contribute to dispute resolution where required.

Support managers in preparing for and representing the Council at Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST) hearings.

Promote and model best practice in line with Part 3 of the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

Experience working within SEND services, education, social care or a related field.

Strong knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice.

Experience of coordinating EHC assessments and drafting EHCPs.

Excellent communication, negotiation and partnership-working skills.

The ability to manage competing priorities and work to statutory deadlines.

Experience of working collaboratively with families and multi-agency partners.

Knowledge of mediation and SEND Tribunal processes would be advantageous.
