Supporting learning across the secondary English curriculum, including English Language and English Literature where appropriate.

Developing reading comprehension, writing, spelling, punctuation, grammar and vocabulary skills.

Supporting the learner to analyse texts, develop ideas and express themselves clearly in writing.

Identifying gaps in English knowledge and providing targeted support.

Breaking down complex tasks and concepts into clear, manageable steps.

Adapting teaching methods, resources and lesson pace to suit individual learning styles.

Supporting GCSE English preparation, revision and exam technique where appropriate.

Using engaging texts, practical activities and the learner's interests to encourage participation.

Supporting learners who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education.

Helping the learner develop confidence, resilience, independence and positive attitudes towards English.

Supporting learners who may experience SEMH needs, anxiety, disengagement or challenging behaviour.

Using positive behaviour strategies and appropriate de-escalation approaches where required.

Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.

Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback to parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner's education.

Building a positive and trusting relationship with the learner.

Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.

Essential requirements:

Strong English subject knowledge at secondary level.

A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.

Strong communication and organisational skills.

A reliable and consistent approach to work.

Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

An enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and the right to work in the UK.
