SEND Case Officer (Liverpool) – Hybrid
Liverpool City Council is seeking an experienced SEND Case Officer to join its SEND Service on an interim basis. The successful candidate will support schools, settings, services, and families in applying the graduated approach to meeting the needs of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
The role will involve coordinating the statutory assessment process, managing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), and working closely with schools, families, and multi-agency professionals to ensure children and young people receive appropriate support and achieve positive outcomes.
Main Duties:
Support schools, educational settings, services, and families in applying the graduated approach to meeting the needs of pupils with SEND
Coordinate the statutory assessment process for children and young people with SEND, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and timescales
Manage a caseload of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) from assessment through to placement and annual review
Review and monitor progress against agreed outcomes within EHCPs
Develop strong working relationships with schools, settings, SENCos, and Head Teachers, providing advice and support regarding SEND processes and provision
Work closely with internal colleagues including Educational Psychology, Occupational Therapy, SENISS, Social Care, Health professionals, and other partner agencies to ensure a coordinated multi-agency approach
Ensure that parents, carers, children, and young people are at the centre of all planning, decision-making, and review processes
Attend annual review meetings for vulnerable children and young people, including Looked After Children, pupils at risk of exclusion, and those with complex needs
Support the identification of appropriate educational placements and promote inclusion within maintained settings wherever possible
Maintain accurate records and update relevant case management systems
Ensure all statutory deadlines relating to Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments and EHCPs are met
Requirements:
Recent experience working within a Local Authority SEND Service, ideally as a SEND Case Officer or SEND Caseworker
Strong knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice, SEND Regulations, and associated legislation
Experience managing Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments and EHCP processes
Experience facilitating and attending annual reviews and multi-agency meetings
Experience working collaboratively with schools, families, and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people
Experience working within multi-agency teams and partnership environments
Strong understanding of the graduated approach to SEND support
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a demanding caseload effectively
Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Ability to build positive relationships with parents, carers, schools, and professionals
