About the role and school

Teach Plus are currently recruiting for a compassionate, resilient and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant (SEMH) to join a welcoming primary school in Peckham, Southwark, starting January 2027. This full-time SEN Teaching Assistant position will involve supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning, develop positive relationships and manage their emotions within the classroom environment. The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will work closely with teaching staff and the SENCO to provide tailored support, promote positive behaviour and ensure pupils feel safe, valued and confident in their learning.

The school is a welcoming, community-focused primary school in Peckham with a strong Christian ethos and a commitment to inclusion, respect and personal development. Serving a diverse local community, the school places great importance on nurturing positive relationships, promoting emotional wellbeing and ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed. The school offers a broad and engaging curriculum alongside a caring learning environment where pupils are encouraged to develop confidence, independence and resilience. Staff work collaboratively to support children's individual needs and maintain a positive and inclusive school culture.

The school is looking for a patient, confident and adaptable SEN Teaching Assistant who can build trusting relationships, remain calm in challenging situations and implement effective behaviour support strategies.
