Description:

SEN Teaching Assistant (Year 3 – Working at Nursery Level)
Location: Barnet, London
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Salary: £90–£100 per day, depending on experience and qualifications.

Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with Autism? Do you have a background in Early Years and enjoy adapting learning to meet individual developmental needs? If so, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

A welcoming primary school in Finchley, Barnet, is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support a new Year 3 pupil with Autism who is currently working at a Nursery/Foundation Stage level. As the child will be joining the school for the first time, the successful candidate will play a key role in helping them settle, build confidence, and access learning in a safe and nurturing environment.

About the Role

You will provide 1:1 support for a pupil with significant developmental delays and Autism. The child is minimally verbal, communicating mainly through single words, gestures, and non-verbal communication. Learning activities will need to be carefully adapted to match the pupils developmental stage, with a strong focus on communication, social interaction, and emotional wellbeing.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who understands how to bridge the gap between Early Years and Key Stage 2, creating engaging and meaningful learning experiences that support individual progress.

Candidate Requirements:
• Strong experience supporting children with Autism
• Experience within Early Years or Foundation Stage settings
• A good understanding of supporting pupils working significantly below age-related expectations
• Confidence adapting activities to suit individual developmental needs
• Experience supporting communication and social development
• A patient, flexible, and nurturing approach

Relevant qualifications are beneficial, but proven experience supporting pupils with Autism is essential.

About the School

Located in Finchley within the London Borough of Barnet, this friendly and inclusive primary school is committed to ensuring every child receives the support they need to thrive. Staff work collaboratively to provide a nurturing environment where pupils feel valued, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential.

If you have the skills, patience, and passion to support a child at a crucial stage of their educational journey, wed love to hear from you.
