SEN Teaching Assistant
Hours: Monday – Friday, Full-Time, Term-Time Only

About the Role

A specialist SEN school in Croydon is looking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to support children and young people with a range of additional needs. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dedicated staff team where you will play a key role in helping pupils achieve their academic, social, and personal goals.

The school caters for pupils with Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, speech and language difficulties, and complex communication needs. Working closely with teachers and therapists, you will provide tailored support that enables every pupil to access learning and thrive within the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN

* Support pupils with learning, communication, emotional regulation, and social development

* Assist in delivering personalised learning plans and EHCP outcomes

* Encourage independence, confidence, and active participation in lessons

* Use sensory resources and communication strategies to support individual needs

* Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and the wider multidisciplinary team

* Support pupils with personal care where required

* Promote positive behaviour through consistent and nurturing approaches

* Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

* Experience working with children or young people with SEN

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills

* Patient, caring, and resilient approach

* Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues

* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

* Right to Work in the UK

Desirable:

* Experience supporting pupils with ASC, SLD, MLD, SEMH, or speech and language needs

* Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC, or sensory-based learning approaches

* Experience within a specialist SEN school, mainstream school, or care setting

* Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or health and social care

* Team Teach or positive behaviour management training
