Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary SEN Unit – Borehamwood

Location: Borehamwood, Hertfordshire
Start: ASAP | Full-Time
Salary: £87 – £110 per day

Supply Desk is recruiting a dedicated and compassionate Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in the Borehamwood area. This rewarding opportunity is based within the school's specialist SEN provision, supporting pupils with a range of complex additional needs while helping them access learning and develop the confidence and independence to thrive both within the unit and the wider school community.

This role would suit an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant, a graduate looking to pursue a career in education or educational psychology, or someone with experience in care or support work who is passionate about helping children with additional needs succeed.

What You'll Do

Provide tailored support to pupils within the specialist SEN unit, adapting your approach to meet individual learning and communication needs
Deliver targeted interventions under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO to support academic, social, and emotional development
Support pupils during integration into mainstream lessons and wider school activities where appropriate
Use visual timetables, communication aids, sensory resources, and structured routines to promote engagement and independence
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and external professionals to ensure consistent support for each pupil
Assist with recording observations and monitoring progress towards individual education and support targets
Promote positive behaviour through consistent strategies and help pupils develop self-regulation and confidence
Support pupils with personal care or medical needs where required, always maintaining dignity and respect

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

Experience working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs, either in education, care, or a similar setting
An understanding of additional needs such as Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), speech and language needs, ADHD, or moderate learning difficulties
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
A calm, patient, and flexible approach to supporting children with a range of needs
A genuine passion for inclusive education and helping every child reach their potential
