SEN Teaching Assistant – SEMH – Secondary School

Location: Hertfordshire
Salary: £90–£100 per day, dependent on experience and qualifications
Contract: Full-time, Long-term Temporary
Start: September 2026 – immediate/as soon as possible

Teach Now is looking for a confident and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to support secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) in Hertfordshire.

This role is ideal for someone who understands that behaviour often communicates an unmet need and can combine clear boundaries with patience, consistency and positive relationships.

The role

Provide targeted 1:1 and small-group support.

Help pupils remain engaged in lessons and school routines.

Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.

Use agreed behaviour and SEN strategies consistently.

Assist pupils during challenging transitions or situations.

Work closely with teaching staff and the school's SEN/pastoral team.

We are looking for

Previous SEMH, SEN, behaviour or secondary-school experience.

Confidence working with teenagers displaying challenging behaviour.

Calm communication and strong professional boundaries.

Relevant TA, SEN or youth-support qualifications are advantageous.

Team Teach or similar training is beneficial but not essential.
