Contract Type: Part Time, Long-Term Temporary
Start Date: September 2026
Location: Barnet, London
Salary: £16–£17 per hour

Hours of Work: Afternoon Only (12:00pm – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday) (Term Time Only)

About the Role

A rewarding opportunity has arisen for a calm, compassionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with Autism at a welcoming and community-focused primary school in Barnet.

The pupil is bright, verbal and capable but can become dysregulated when faced with challenges around social interaction, competition and managing emotions. The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will work closely with the schools established support team, helping the child develop emotional regulation, positive social relationships and confidence throughout the afternoon.

Much of the support takes place within a dedicated learning space designed to provide a calm and structured environment. The school is seeking someone patient, observant and nurturing who can build trust, recognise triggers and respond consistently to the pupils needs.

Requirements
• Previous experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
• Experience working in SEN settings or supporting pupils with additional needs
• Relevant SEN, Autism or Teaching Assistant qualifications are beneficial
• Strong behaviour support and de-escalation skills
• A calm, patient and resilient approach
• Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with children
• Understanding of emotional regulation strategies and social communication needs

Key Responsibilities
• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with ASD
• Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour throughout the afternoon
• Help the pupil develop social interaction and communication skills
• Deliver movement breaks and structured support when required
• Work collaboratively with the class team and SEN staff
• Maintain a safe, positive and supportive learning environment
