SEN Teaching Assistant – Autism Support
Location: Enfield, London
Salary: £93–£105 per day, depending on qualifications and experience
Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary
Start date: 5 October 2026
Teach Now is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support two autistic pupils in Years 1 and 5 at a welcoming primary school in Enfield.
Both pupils are academically capable and enjoy learning but can become dysregulated during the school day. The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will use creative, practical strategies to help them manage emotions, navigate transitions and remain engaged in lessons. No personal care is required.
The role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
• Provide tailored support to pupils in Years 1 and 5.
• Use effective regulation strategies to reduce anxiety and prevent escalation.
• Adapt activities creatively to maintain engagement and motivation.
• Support classroom learning, routines and transitions.
• Encourage independence, confidence and positive social interaction.
• Recognise triggers and respond calmly and consistently.
• Work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and wider support team.
• Monitor progress and provide clear feedback on each pupils needs.
About you
The successful candidate will:
• Have previous experience supporting autistic children.
• Understand emotional and sensory regulation needs.
• Be able to provide strong examples of successfully engaging pupils.
• Be patient, observant, creative and solution-focused.
• Build trusting relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.
• Remain calm and consistent during periods of dysregulation.
• Be committed to safeguarding and have the right to work in the UK.
This role would suit a confident SEN Teaching Assistant who understands that behaviour is a form of communication and can adapt their approach to meet each childs individual needs.
