About the Role:

Sometimes, progress is a child choosing a symbol, joining in with messy play or finding a new way to express what they need. As a SEN Teaching Assistant in this welcoming Archway primary school, youll help make those moments possible.

Teach Now is recruiting a caring, proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to support a small nurture group of approximately eight children from Reception to Year 2. The children are non-verbal or pre-verbal and benefit from a patient, play-based approach that supports communication, engagement and independence.

Youll work alongside a teacher and two other Learning Support Assistants, using visual resources, Makaton and sensory activities to help children participate in learning. Personal care is an important part of the role, including sensitive support with toileting and eating.

Your Thursday will begin in Breakfast Club at 8:00am, supporting pupils with and without SEN as part of the wider team, before moving into the nurture group. With an ongoing supply placement until July 2027, this is an opportunity to become a familiar presence and build meaningful relationships over time.

Requirements:

Were looking for applicants who can bring relevant experience, skills or understanding in:

Supporting young children with special educational needs, particularly in Early Years or Key Stage 1.

Working with children who are non-verbal or pre-verbal.

Using symbols, visual resources and Makaton to support communication.

Engaging children through sensory activities, messy play and meaningful interactions.

Supporting toileting, personal care and eating needs with dignity and sensitivity.

Youll also need a patient, nurturing approach, strong teamwork skills and reliable availability every Thursday from 8:00am for the duration of the placement. A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Support childrens communication and participation using symbols, visual resources and Makaton signing.

Help deliver sensory activities, messy play and engaging learning experiences.

Encourage language development, interaction and independence through purposeful play.

Provide sensitive support with toileting, personal care and eating.

Work closely with the teacher and other Learning Support Assistants to provide consistent support.

Help supervise and engage pupils during Breakfast Club.

Benefits – Our client can offer you:

A small nurture-group setting where you can get to know childrens individual needs.

Close collaboration with a teacher and two other Learning Support Assistants.

An inclusive school environment with a strong focus on overcoming barriers to learning.

A regular Thursday working pattern.

An ongoing placement until July 2027, offering continuity with the same school community.

The opportunity to help young children develop communication skills and greater independence.
