Are you a calm, nurturing and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding 1:1 role in a supportive primary school?

A welcoming primary school in Barnet is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Reception-aged pupil with autism and significant social communication needs from September 2026. This is a highly rewarding role for someone who is patient, consistent and passionate about helping children with complex SEND feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide 1:1 support for a non-verbal pupil with autism in a Reception class.
• Build a trusting and consistent relationship over time.
• Use a calm, nurturing and low-arousal approach to support regulation and engagement.
• Support communication through visuals, gestures, symbols or communication aids.
• Adapt activities so the pupil can access learning at an appropriate level.
• Follow EHCP targets, individual support plans and specialist advice.
• Provide intimate care respectfully and professionally when required.
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and external professionals.

The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will:

• Have experience supporting children with autism and complex SEND.
• Ideally have experience with non-verbal pupils or ASD provision.
• Be calm, patient, resilient and emotionally consistent.
• Be confident supporting personal care needs with dignity and professionalism.
• Understand the importance of safeguarding, trust and routine.
• Be observant, proactive and able to follow specialist guidance.
• Be able to commit to the full academic year to provide continuity for the pupil.
