SEN Teaching Assistant - Complex Needs - Barking Riverside

Remedy Education is currently recruiting for a confident, proactive and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND provision within a welcoming mainstream primary school in Barking Riverside.

The successful candidate will be supporting a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 class with a range of complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including pupils who are pre-verbal, require additional communication support and need assistance with personal care.

This is a busy, hands-on and fast-paced classroom, so we are looking for someone who is energetic, resilient and confident working with children who require a high level of individualised support.

Key Responsibilities

Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support to KS1 pupils with complex SEND needs.

Support pre-verbal and non-verbal pupils using appropriate communication strategies.

Assist with personal and intimate care, including toileting and changing.

Support pupils with challenging behaviour using positive behaviour management and de-escalation techniques.

Deliver engaging sensory, practical and play-based learning activities.

Encourage independence, communication, emotional regulation and social development.

Work closely with the class teacher and wider SEND team to provide consistent, high-quality support.

Maintain a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

Previous experience supporting children with complex SEND needs is essential.

Experience working with pre-verbal or non-verbal pupils.

Must be comfortable providing personal and intimate care.

Confident managing challenging behaviour and supporting emotional regulation.

Energetic, proactive and able to keep up with the demands of a busy KS1 classroom.

Patient, resilient and able to use initiative without constant direction.

Previous experience in an SEN school, specialist SEND provision or complex needs classroom is highly desirable.

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Why Join Remedy Education?

Competitive daily rates of pay.

Full-time, long-term opportunity within a supportive primary school.

Opportunity to gain valuable experience in a specialist SEND provision.

Ongoing guidance and support from a dedicated SEN recruitment consultant.

Rewarding role supporting children with complex additional needs.
