Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant - Full-Time

Location: Skelmersdale

Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only

Role Overview

We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary school in Skelmersdale, supporting pupils aged 4-11 with a range of additional learning needs. This rewarding role involves working closely with teachers and other professionals to provide tailored support, helping pupils achieve their individual learning goals in a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs
Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated learning activities across the primary curriculum
Support pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
Help implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual learning programmes
Encourage pupils' independence, confidence, and social development through positive interactions and consistent support
Promote positive behaviour using effective behaviour management strategies and school policies
Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, therapists, parents, and external agencies to support pupil progress
Assist with personal care where required, ensuring pupils' dignity, wellbeing, and safety are always maintained

Requirements

Previous experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs is desirable
A patient, compassionate, and nurturing approach to supporting pupils with additional needs
Good understanding of a range of SEN, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and speech, language and communication difficulties
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families
Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3) is desirable but not essential
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
