SEN Teaching Assistant - Bury

A vibrant SEN school in Bury requires an SEN Teaching Assistant from September 2026 on a full-time basis through Aspire People.

The school supports pupils with a wide range of complex needs including autism, PMLD, MLD, SLCN and SEMH. The school provides a structured, nurturing and highly inclusive environment where pupils can develop communication, independence and emotional regulation skills, and be supported to achieve their very best.

The Role
We are looking for a resilient, confident and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant who can adapt to a wide range of needs across different age groups. You will work under the guidance of experienced teachers and therapy teams to help pupils access a personalised curriculum and engage positively in their daily routines.

Your day may involve supporting pupils with communication aids, assisting with sensory‑based activities, helping with physical or medical needs (training provided), and contributing to a calm, consistent learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and small‑group support for pupils with autism, PMLD, MLD, SLCN or SEMH
- Follow individual learning plans and communication strategies
- Use visual supports, structured routines and regulation approaches
- Support pupils with sensory, emotional and social communication needs
- Assist with personal care or mobility needs where required (training provided)
- Promote independence, engagement and positive behaviour
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other support staff

Who We Are Looking For
We welcome applicants with experience in SEND settings, care, or wider support roles. Strong candidates may come from:

- Special schools or alternative provisions
- Residential care or children's care settings
- Support Work or Youth Work
- SEMH or CAMHS backgrounds
- Psychology or related degree pathways
- Early Years, complex needs or community support roles

Ideal candidates will be:
- Patient, calm and nurturing
- Able to remain consistent and reassuring when supporting pupils with complex needs
- Confident working in both structured classrooms and sensory or therapeutic environments
- Willing to learn communication systems and approaches

Requirements
- Availability Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm
- A genuine interest in SEND and child development
- Resilience and reliability
- Willingness to undertake safeguarding and vetting checks
