Teach Now is recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant with an interest or experience in Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) for a welcoming secondary school in Barnet.

This is an excellent opportunity for a patient, proactive Teaching Assistant who enjoys helping young people communicate more confidently, access the curriculum and become increasingly independent. You will support pupils across KS3–KS5, including students with EHCPs and a range of speech, language, communication and associated SEND needs.

Working closely with teachers, the SENCo and other professionals, you will provide targeted 1:1 and small-group support while helping pupils participate successfully in mainstream lessons.

Key Responsibilities

Support pupils with speech, language and communication needs across the curriculum

Deliver 1:1 and small-group activities under the guidance of teaching and SEN staff

Reinforce strategies recommended by Speech and Language Therapists where appropriate

Adapt resources and instructions to make learning accessible

Encourage pupils to develop communication, confidence and independence

Support positive behaviour, emotional regulation and social interaction

Monitor progress and share relevant observations with teachers and the SEN team

Help maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment

Requirements

The successful candidate will ideally have:

Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, SLCN or additional learning needs

Strong spoken and written communication skills

A calm, patient and encouraging approach

The ability to build positive professional relationships with secondary-age pupils

A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or relevant SEND/Speech & Language training, is desirable

An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one

The right to work in the UK

Satisfactory references covering recent employment

Experience in a secondary school, specialist provision, speech and language setting, youth work or similar environment would be highly relevant.
